Sharing the Light

In partnership with 92NY, The HOW Institute for Society board of directors — Chip Bergh, Devika Bulchandani, Dr. Wayne Frederick, Nancy Gibbs, General Dave Goldfein, Ambassador Jon Huntsman, Dennis Nally, Paul Polman, Amy Rosen — and staff will host a gathering of luminaries ahead of the 92NY Gala honors for HOW founder Dov Seidman alongside artist Ephrat Asherie and retired 92NY board chair Jody Arnhold and The Arnhold Family.

Dov Seidman has served on the board of 92NY for over 15 years and is partnering with 92NY and its CEO Seth Pinsky for this HOW Community Gathering on Moral Leadership. The 92NY honor recognizes Dov's commitment to the institution and his work advancing moral leadership in society. The HOW gathering recognizes that advancement only happens in communion with others. “Sharing the Light” — the gala's theme — beautifully captures a core tenet of moral leadership: we are called not only to cultivate light within ourselves, but to share it generously and become a source of illumination for others, even when courage is required or when it is inconvenient or unpopular.

The HOW Community Gathering for Moral Leadership brings together luminary leaders from business, government, education, military, religion, sports, media, entertainment, and the social sector for a thoughtful and candid conversation. We will endeavor to learn from one another and engage with frameworks and approaches that help leaders scale values and principled decision-making within their own organizations and beyond.

Humility, like darkness, reveals the heavenly lights.

Henry David Thoreau

The afternoon will be informed by the beliefs shared by the kindred organizations: that institutions must be guided by values and shaped by moral leaders; that moral authority and formal authority must be combined to create enduring impact; and that shared norms and high trust are essential to healthy communities and organizations.
